K4 Cup: A win was not enough to book a place in the semi final of the ongoing K4 cricket cup for Takin City.  Youth XI, which lost to Takin City yesterday, entered the semis at the expense of the Takins for their better net run rate.

On any other day, chasing a target of 171 runs would have been a walk in the park for Takin City’s batsmen.  But they had the added pressure for having to chase the target down in 22 overs to better Youth XI’s net run rate of 0.75.

Takin City could only reach the target in the 26th over and exited the tournament in spite of the win.

Batting first after losing the toss, Youth XI’s total of 170 runs was largely helped by outstanding batting from wicketkeeper Kencho Norbu, who scored 42.  Vishal added another 41.  Takin City’s bowler, Lobzang Yonten, picked up four wickets.

In reply, Takin City got off to the worst possible start, when they lost opener Manoj Adhikari and Karma Tamang without any runs on the board.

Medhi Hassan’s blistering innings of 48 runs of 47 balls gave some hope for Takin City.  But despite Medhi Hassan’s heroics, Raj Chamling and Sonam Tobgay’s efforts in chasing down the target in the prescribed overs, Takin City fell short.

Youth XI’s Vishal was adjudged the man of the match for his innings of 41 runs and five wickets.

In Saturday’s match, Bhutan Yellow Page (BYP) cricket club beat Bhutan Telecom, which exited the tournament after losing three matches in a row.

The win gives BYP cricket club a slender chance of reaching the semifinals.  BYP won the toss and elected to bat first.  A few knocks here and there by BYP batsmen and a chunk of extras from Bhutan Telecom saw BYP set a target of 150 runs for Bhutan Telecom to chase.

The dismal performance from Bhutan Telecom’s batsmen continued.  Only Suman Pradhan, who managed 40, and Prashant with 32, managed to give some substance to the chase.  Bhutan Telecom got bowled out for 122 runs.

Meanwhile, Dechencholing middle secondary school won the U13 school cricket championship played at the Yangchenphug cricket ground.  They defeated Lungtenphug lower secondary school in the finals played yesterday.  Lungtenphug’s Dorji Chedup was awarded the player of the tournament prize.
