Trongsa dzongkhag team won the two-day civil-servant super league held in Tsirang yesterday.

Trongsa’s team scored two goals against Tsirang’s lone goal in the finals yesterday.

Team Trongsa turned out strong with the dzongdag Tenzin Dorji as one of its fastest players. Tsirang slogged a bit with one of its best players injured. Tsirang dzongrab Namgay Dorji was also in the team.

Team Trongsa scored both its winning goals in the first half while team Tsirang managed to score a goal towards the end of the match. The match after half time was faster than the first half. Both the teams missed several sure-goals.

The tournament was played between nine dzongkhags of Sarpang, Trongsa, Zhemgang, Thimphu, Wangdue, Gasa, Haa, Dagana and Tsirang.

Tsirang Sports Association’s general secretary, Wangchuk, said the super league was strictly for civil servants working in the dzongkhag administrations.

“We’re trying to build a relationship between civil servants of different dzongkhags through sports,” he said.

Besides creating a platform for social integrity and community bonding through football, Tsirang is working towards boosting local tourism.

Wangchuk said it was the first time such a football match was organised and while there are other dzongkhags interested to participate, all could not be taken in this time. “We’ll expand team participation next year onwards,” he said.

Each of the nine teams paid an entry fee of Nu 10,000.

The winner, team Trongsa took home a cash prize of Nu 25,000 while the runners-up and host, team Tsirang took Nu 15,000.
