Football:  In the on going Thimphu Football League, debutant Tensung FC recorded their first point on the table when they held the table toppers, Thimphu FC, to a goalless draw at Changlimithang Stadium yesterday.

Both the teams were desperately looking for the three points. Had Thimphu FC won, the team would have secured their top position with a huge margin of five points ahead of the second and third place teams.

Tensung FC, on the other hand desperately needed the win to get out of the bottom and register their first win. However, both the teams could not break the deadlock at the end of full time.

Thimphu FC, however, still retains their top position in the league table with 10 points after four games.

Under a new head coach, Thimphu FC’s journey so far in the tournament has been success story. On April 14, the team humbled the defending champions FC Tertons 2-0. Thimphu FC may have joined the league only last year but the team is currently undefeated in their four games this season.

Hari Gurung, “the great wall of Bhutan”, is yet to be beaten at the tournament.

Alongside a new command, the team have also brought in a few new faces. Popular names such as Hari Gurung, Karma Nidup and Lhendup Dorji from the national team are making their presence felt in the team.

Meanwhile, Drukstar FC and Thimphu City FC settled for a draw on April 19.

After a goalless 45 minutes, Drukstar’s Dorji broke the deadlock in the added minute of the first half. Another swift goal from Dorji followed in the beginning of the second half. However, City got back in the game when Lungtok Dawa scored in the 47th minute. In the 76th minute, Tshering Dorji equalised for City.

With seven points each, Drukstar FC and Thimphu City FC are currently in second and third place respectively on goal difference. Both the teams have played three games each.

A total of eight teams from Thimphu are taking part in this year’s tournament. Two new teams, Tensung FC and Under-17 national team joined the league this season.

Druk United FC will take on Drukstar FC today at 6pm at the Changlimithang.
