Thimphu police arrested a 31-year-old taxi driver from Dungna, Chukha for illicit drugs trafficking on November 1.

Police recovered 5,760 Spasmo proxyvon Plus capsules from his house at Babesa.

Police sources said that the man confessed that he smuggled the drugs from across the border.

The man claimed that there was a dealer across the border who sent drugs to Bhutan but he had no idea how the dealer was sending drugs.

Illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances is a third-degree felony with a prison term of five to nine years, according to Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Substance Abuse Act, 2015. 

According to the police, the suspect would be charged with additional penalties for Criminal Nuisance, Section 410 and 411 (b) and for the Breach of Public Order and Tranquility (Section 448 and 449) of the Penal Code of Bhutan.
