Thimphu Thromde has deployed about 70 workers to expedite the restoration works on the damaged water supply line between Dodena and Taba.
The critical repairs, including the installation of pillars and thrust blocks, were expected to be completed by yesterday night.
Continuous heavy rain during the weekend damaged the water transmission line on Sunday.
This damaged transmission line supplies water to Langjopakha, Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School (YHSS) area, Changjiji, parts of core Thimphu area, the Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan (RICB) housing area, and lower Changzamtok.
A Thromde official said that they were making every possible effort to reinstate the structure and the damaged pipeline by yesterday night. “Following the completion of these critical repairs, water is anticipated to be recharged today night after the cement sets.”
However, it may take until Wednesday afternoon for the water supply to fully reach all affected households.
In the interim, Thimphu Thromde is encouraging residents to utilise the water tanker service available.
“Any further delays or unforeseen issues will be promptly communicated to the public,” the official added.
The Thromde has also arranged for limited water distribution to certain areas. To manage this, the water supply to Lower Taba has been reduced from three times a day to two, with additional extraction from Upper Taba to meet demand.
Areas that are facing a complete water outage are Langjopakha, YHSS area, and Changjiji while other areas will experience partial disruptions.
The Thimphu Thromde initially notified the public that the restoration work would take weeks since the damaged site was located far away from the road.
