Police arrested three men for alleged gold smuggling in Paro last week.

They were in their late thirties. Two of them are from Lhuentse and the other is from Dagana.

The police following a tip-off intercepted them on March 15, while they were returning from Bangkok.

They were caught at the parking lot outside the airport.

According to sources, they were carrying more than seven kilograms of gold in their hand luggage which was not scanned at the custom X-Ray.

Along with them, they also had music systems and TV screens for karaoke.

It was learnt that a taxi and a private car came to pick them up. However, the police confiscated the private car and it is under police custody.

The gold is currently in the custody of Paro police. Police are investigating the case.
