Accident: Three people died on impact when the vehicle they were travelling in fell 140 metres below the road on the Thimphu-Wangdue highway at Chasangang at around 10am, yesterday.

They were travelling to Rukubjee from Thimphu carrying seven people including the driver who died on impact. Four of the passengers survived the accident but sustained injuries.

According to sources, the 31-year old driver who was also the owner of the vehicle was a resident of Olakha in Thimphu and is from Gumaney gewog in Samtse. Besides the driver, the other victims included a 32-year man who worked as a mechanic and a male student of Hontsho primary school, studying in class V.

Of the four passengers who survived, two of the passengers were students of Drepong primary school and Chamgang lower secondary school, one is a driver and the other works in a hotel.

The injured passengers are being treated at the Bajo regional hospital in Wangdue, sources said.

The cause of the accident is yet to be determined.
