The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) charged three men to the Thimphu dzongkhag court for smuggling controlled substances.
A 27-year-old tailor from Kazhi in Wangduephodrang was charged for smuggling 1,776 capsules of Spasmoproxyvon Plus (SP+).
Thimphu city police arrested him after they found 96 capsules in a cupboard of a 25-year-old man’s house in Changjiji. Police raided his house based on a tip-off.
The 25-year-old man from Sonamthang in Panbang told police that he bought the controlled substances from the tailor.
The tailor was arrested from a car wash where police found 96 capsules of SP+ in his van.
OAG submitted to court that after the two men were taken into custody, the 25-year-old man revealed that he kept 72 capsules with another friend, a 22-year-old man.
Police raided the third accused’s house but could not find the substances. They then raided the tailor and the 25-year-old man’s house.
Police found 76 capsules of SP+ in the 25-year-old man’s house and 1,680 capsules in the tailor’s house.
OAG submitted that the 25-year-old man, in his statement to police, stated that the tailor not only supplied the substances for consumption but also for sale.
“After the tailor brought five stripes of SP+ to his house, he sold one stripe to a boy for Nu 2,900,” the charges stated.
The tailor submitted that a friend from Jaigoan sent the substances in a Bolero with a West Bengal registration number. “He went to Chunzom to claim the substances and paid Nu 1,500 a stripe,” OAG charges stated.
The 22-year-old man stated that although he was given nine stripes of SP+ for sale, he sold some to friends and flushed off six stripes in the toilet.
Although the tailor tested negative for a drugs test, the other two tested positive.
OAG charged the 25-year-old man and 22-year-old man for smuggling the substances, as they found the 25-year-old man in possession of 96 capsules of SP+ and alleged the 76 capsules they found at the 25-year-old man’s house belonged to the 22-year-old man.
OAG submitted to court that the 25-year-old man was convicted to three months in prison in 2011 for drugs and one year in prison in 2012 for a battery case.
It also submitted that the 22-year-old man was convicted to one year and six months in prison in 2012 and 11 months in prison in 2015 for battery.
