The farm road that connects Berdungma-Thungkhar chiwog in Thrimshing in Trashigang has not seen any major maintenance in the last 12 years.
Every year villagers contribute labour for the road maintenance.
The Berdungma farm road is one of the longest farm roads in the gewog which stretches from Phegpari to Berdungma village.
Villagers said with no proper maintenance, the condition of the road was worsening.
“It is worse during monsoon. We held many discussions on this issue with gewog administration,” said a villager.
Samten, a villager, said the people requested the gewog administration to carry out major maintenance.
Dechen Wangdi, another villager, said that during campaigns, both the government and local government pledged to blacktop the road. “Nothing ever happens, however.”
Thungkhar-Berdungma Tshogpa, Kencho Wangdi, said the road remained blocked especially during monsoon.
“With the bad road condition, people have no choice but to wait till the end of the monsoon to take agriculture produce to Samdrupjongkhar,” he said.
Thrimshing Gup Ngawang Dorji said that gewog administration was aware of the problem facing the people of Berdungma. “But maintenance work will start from next financial year budget of Nu 0.2 million.”
