The newly constructed Thubten Droduelling Lhakhang is expected to benefit about 5,000 people living in Changjiji, Thimphu and nearby communities for all the religious activities.

Commemorating the birth of His Royal Highness Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, His Holiness the Je Khenpo, Trulku Jigme Choeda, consecrated the Lhakhang yesterday. Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, cabinet ministers, lopons of Zhung Geduen Dratshang and senion government officials attended the ceremony.

On the command of His Majesty The King, National Housing Development Corporation Limited (NHDCL) constructed the Lhakhang with funding from government. Constructed at the cost of Nu 24.40 million, including the installation of nangten (statues), mural painting and site development, it took more than two years for the corporation to complete the construction, NHDCL’s chief executive officer Thinley Dorji said.

“With the consecration of the Lhakhang, the people living in and around Changjiji can now conduct or organise any religious activities,” he said.

His Holiness the Je Khenpo appointed Wangchuk of Central Monastic Body as the Lam of the Thubten Droduelling Lhakhang and committee members to manage the operations of the Lhakhang for the benefit of the people.

Following the consecration ceremony, His Holiness administered Tshewang (blessing of long life) to the people.
