Update: Life has changed for the people living along the Toorsa embankment after the murder of a 23-year-old taxi driver on January 15. When people find anything unusual or anyone with suspicious look they report to the police immediately.

On the night of January 26, some locals complained to police of unusual partying noise. When the police arrived at the scene, there was no one there.

“Toorsa becomes a place to loiter after shops are closed in the town,” said a 62-year-old Toorsa resident. “We do not know who they are but all sorts of men and women come here.”

When drayangs close in town, people go to Toorsa to buy alcohol and there they outstay the night at video halls and karaoke joints.

Now that the orange season is almost over, only a few depots have remained in Toorsa. Police have advised shopkeeper to close early. So there hasn’t been much problem lately.

Sangay Wangchuk, a resident of Toorsa, is always worried when the night comes. He has a teenage daughter with him.

Another resident, Choki Wangmo, said she is glad that police patrolling has increased in the area these days.

“People now have become more watchful,” said Choki Wangmo. “And that’s good.”

Anita, a shopkeeper, said not a lot of people come to Toorsa these days. “Murder changed things here. It’s become by much quieter.”

Phuentsholing police are still investigating the murder.

The taxi drive from Gomtu was discovered near YDF basketball court, wounded badly and bleeding. He died in hospital.
