The dzongkhag has one female mangmi and seven female tshogpas

All six former gups in Trashigang, who re-contested in the third local government (LG) elections, were re-elected.

The gups of Kanglung, Samkhar, Udzorong, Yangneer, Bartsham and Phongmey gewogs claimed they re-contested because they have incomplete development activities and they have to complete them. Some claimed people encouraged them to participate again.

Gup Kinzang Dorji of Kanglung Gewog was elected for the third consecutive time.

Meanwhile, only one female candidate was elected as mangmi.

Yeshi Lhamo was elected as mangmi from Yangneer. She has defeated two male candidates by more than 100 votes. The mother of two was the tshogpa.

She said that now people trust and support female candidates. “I can equally contribute like a male candidate in terms of bringing development activities in the gewog.”

Yeshi Lhamo is a Class 12 graduate.

Two female candidates contested for the post of gup and two female candidates contested for the post of mangmi, and 19 females contested for the post of tshogpa for the third LG elections.

However, the dzongkhag only elected seven female tshogpas.

Udzorong Gewog has university graduates as both gup and mangmi. Radi’s gup elect is also a university graduate and Khangpara and Samkhar gewog’s mangmi-elects also have university degrees.

In Merak, the gup elect is Nima. He secured the highest votes of 546. Tashi Dorji is elected as mangmi.

In Sakteng, Tshewang Tshering is the gup elect. Dema Tshering is mangmi elect.

Bidung’s gup elect is Chador Phuntsho.

Khaling’s elect gup is Sonam Dorji. Sonam Rabgay is the new mangmi. The gewog had four gup candidates and four mangmi candidates.

In Udzorong, former gup Dorji Tshering was re-elected. Karma Jigme is the mangmi.

Gup Dorji Tshering said that he would be serving for the second term. He resigned from teaching and contested in the second LG elections.

He said that since he is not old, people in his gewog encouraged him to contest as gup. “We have a water scarcity in gewog and I will solve the issues. The quality of farm roads also needs maintenance.”

Thrimshing the gup-elect is Yegi Dorji and the mangmi-elect is Dendrup Tshering. There were three candidates contesting for gup and three candidates for mangmi.

In Lumang, the gup-elect is Sangay Gyeltshen and the mangmi-elect is Kinley Lhendup. There were four candidates contesting for gup and four candidates contesting for mangmi.

Former gup Kinzang Dorji was re-elected in Kanglung. Pema Wangdi is the mangmi-elect. There were four candidates contesting for gup and two candidates contesting for mangmi.

Former gup Jamyang was also re-elected in Samkhar and the mangmi-elect is Ngawang Gyeltshen. There were three gup candidates and two mangmi candidates.

Lone gup candidate Duptho was re-elected in Yangneer and mangmi elect is Yeshi Lhamo.

The Shongphu gup-elect is Jigme Thinley and the mangmi-elect is Tandin Wangchuk. There were three gup candidates and two mangi candidates.

Former gup Kelzang Dawa was also re-elected in Bartsham. The mangmi-elect is Wangchuk.

In Phongmey gewog, former gup Namgyel Wangdi was re-elected. The mangmi elect is Wangdi. There were two candidates for gup and two candidates for mangmi.

In Radi, the gup-elect is Yonten Phuntsho and the mangmi-elect is Rinchen Wangdi. There are three candidates contesting for gup and two candidates for mangmi.

In Kangpara Gewog, the gup-elect is Sangay Tenzin and the mangmi-elect is Pema Wangchen. There were three candidates contesting for gup and two candidates contesting for the mangmi post.

A total of 109 candidates were elected for various posts in the dzongkhag.

Trashigang has 50,948 registered voters.
