Basketball: Day four of the Thimphu B League basketball tournament was nearly called-off, when a light tremor shook the swimming complex in Thimphu yesterday.

The tremor occurred in the final seconds of the second quarter of the game between Effects and Jajins.

Screaming, audience and players rushed out of the hall.  However, the officials and the players decided to continue the game minutes after the shock.

Effects defeated Jajins 55-34, their third consecutive win in the tournament.  Phuntsho Tshering of Effects, a class 12 student of Yangchenphug higher secondary school, with 24 points, was the highest scorer of the match.

Clumsy dribbles and wrong-passes from Jajins contributed to their loss.  Effects have won all three of their games in the league round, while Jajins have won only one and lost two.  The league round will end Thursday.

Twelve teams are divided into two groups of six each.  Four teams, two from each group, will move on to the playoff games of the tournament.

The two top seeds of the tournament will also be promoted to the A division for the next tournament.

The tournament began on April 24.
