Police in Phuentsholing saidit took about 20 minutes to contain a fire on a truck with an Indian registration number at the Rinchending fuel depot yesterday.

No casualty was reported.

The truck was ferrying lime coal to Pasakha industrial estate.

Police officials said short circuit is believed to have caused the fire.

The incident occurred around 11:10am. Police used a fire extinguisher to contain the fire.

The truck driver, Muktar Malik, who is from India, said that he had stopped the truck for a minute with the engine on to take out the bills for clearance at the check post. “The fire started automatically when I and my helper were still in the truck.”

He said that the truck was loaded with 20 tonnes of lime coal. The truck had come from Orissa, India.

Police said the case is being investigated.
