Accident: A 57-year-old non-Bhutanese woman from Darranga died on impact after a Bhutanese truck ran over her in Samdrupjongkhar yesterday.

The incident occurred opposite of bank of Bhutan office around 9am.

According to police, the truck’s rear left wheel hit the woman and ran over her while taking a turn towards the town. The truck was on its way to refuel.

“Eye witnesses said the woman had tried to jump when she saw the truck but was hit before she could escape,” police said.

Police said the driver has been detained.

The deceased had come to collect kerosene in Samdrupjongkhar. The deceased’s friends had informed her family and the body has been handed over. Darranga in Assam is an adjacent border town.
