Tsirang court acquitted a 17-year-old student, who was detained for suspected rape of a 40-year-old speech-impaired woman from Barshong.

The judgment passed on July 17 stated that although Office of Attorney General (OAG) charged the minor for rape of the speech-impaired woman, the court was not convinced that it was rape since she consented to his proposal through sign language.

The judgment also stated that the incident occurred on February 6 when the minor and few friends went to attend a marriage ceremony in the Barshong.

The court also stated that the minor need not pay any compensation since his mother already paid Nu 3,000 to the victim’s sister when she went to request the sister to drop the case.
