Samdrupjongkhar police forwarded a case involving two men for alleged smuggling of tobacco products to the Office of Attorney General (OAG) for prosecution on March 2.

The security personnel at the outpost near the gypsum dumping yard found two huge bags in a bolero and informed the police.  Police seized 50 gums of navy cut Wills cigarettes, 20 gums of bidi and 960 packets of chewing tobacco (baba), approximately worth about Nu 150,000.

The suspect told police that two non-Bhutanese dropped the products.  He also confessed that a 28-year old man had ordered the products.  Police arrested the other suspect on the same day.

According to sources, the suspects were placed under quarantine for 21 days at their own expense.  The suspects completed the quarantine period on February 28.

Sources said that the police charged the suspects with criminal nuisance and breaching public order and tranquillity and forwarded the case to the OAG for prosecution.
