Crime: Samdrupjongkhar police reportedly arrested two men in connection to the murder of a 60-year old man in Gomdar gewog on August 15.

The suspects, a 24-year-old and his 43-year-old grandfather were caught last month. The deceased and the suspects were partners in collecting orange and ginger from villagers and selling them outside the gewog. According to sources, the men have been working together for the last 12 years.

Kuensel learnt that the incident took place around 4:30am after the 24-year old man, the prime suspect, had planned to call the deceased out of his house while his accomplice was to wait near the suspension bridge.

Both the suspects had reportedly hit the deceased on his head and later threw him into the Ngera Ama Chu that runs through the gewog.

Sources said that on the day of the incident, the men were supposed to collect money for ginger from the farmers.

A missing case was reported a week after the incident after relatives and families, were unable to contact the deceased. Based on circumstances and evidences, it was later registered as a murder case.

Villagers believe that money could have been the motive behind the murder. The prime suspect had reportedly paid Nu 56,800 to his accomplice to not disclose any information about the murder.

The body has still not been recovered. Meanwhile, police officials did not comment saying the case is still under investigation.
