The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is reviewing a case involving two drivers who were arrested by Thimphu police for possessing controlled substances.

Thimphu police arrested a 32-year-old driver on November 22 for possessing eight capsules of Spasmoproxyvon Plus (SP+) and 2.6gms of dried marijuana.

The driver from Umling in Gelephu was arrested from Chimithangka in Tsaluna after police received information that he was in possession of the controlled substance.

On interrogation, the driver claimed that he got the controlled substances from his friend, who is also a driver and lives in Namseling.

When police went to the friend’s house, they found that he had gone to Phuentsholing but when they interrogated his wife, she told police that he left a parcel to be handed over to his friend. The parcel contained 300 capsules of SP+. Police also found 12 tablets of N10 and 4.4gms of dried marijuana.

Phuentsholing police arrested the 19-year-old driver on November 23. He also tested positive for abusing Tramadol, marijuana and Benzodiazepine.

Both drivers live in Namseling, Thimphu.

Police claimed that the 32-year-old driver was sent to Bhutan Narcotic Control Authority (BNCA) for rehabilitation since the number of controlled substances he possessed was less than the quantity listed under schedule VII of the act.

The police report stated that the 19-year-old driver smuggled the controlled substances and had violated the Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Substance Abuse Act of Bhutan (Amendment) 2018.
