Thimphu police detained a 20-year-old man for stabbing a 45-year-old man near his shop opposite the Clock Tower Square in Thimphu on December 2. The incident occurred around 5:35pm.

According to police, the shopkeeper’s son and daughter were in the shop when the suspect first visited the shop. The suspect hit the son on his head with a pet bottle and asked for Nu 50.

“Another man came and told the son that the suspect is mentally unsound, so the son did not do anything to the suspect,” a police official said.

About 15 minutes later, the shopkeeper who was travelling from Phuentsholing arrived at the shop. He was carrying the groceries into the shop when the suspect reappeared and allegedly stabbed him in the back with a knife.

“The man sustained a minor cut on the back and had few stitches,” the official said.

The shopkeeper’s daughter reported the incident to police. He was arrested and tested positive for marijuana and Spasmo proxyvon.

In another incident that morning, a health official from the national referral hospital’s emergency department reported to police that a man with injuries suspected of having stabbed with a sharp object came to the hospital for treatment.

“Our officer on duty found that besides the cut on the 25-year-old’s right forearm and ring finger, he had many bruises on his body,” the official said.

During interrogation the man confessed that a group of men were fighting in a club. When he tried to intervene, they allegedly battered him.

Further investigation revealed that the man got injured when he got aggressive and punched a window glass at the club. It was learnt that another man also got hurt when the man broke the glass. Police detained him.

The official said that the man was under the influence of alcohol and was challenging people at the club to fight him. “We are yet to find the man who got hurt when he hit the window glass.”

According to police, the man was battered after he left the club. Police later arrested three suspects aged 16, 21 and 25 for battering the man.
