People of Mangde Tshozhi, Trongsa will choose from the two National Council (NC) candidates on April 20.

Of the two candidates, Rinzin Namgyal, 45 is from Langthil gewog and Sonam Penjor, 39, is from Nubi gewog.

The lone candidate from Langthil gewog, Rinzin Namgyal was nominated at the dhamngoi zomdu on March 3. He got 325 Yes votes and 47 No votes.

Rinzin Namgyal was the principal of Babesa Higher Secondary School in Thimphu when he resigned to join politics. He has a Master of Education and almost 20 years of work experience.

Sonam Penjor was also the lone candidate from Nubi gewog. Of the 134 voter turnout during the dhamngoi zomdu on March 05, 129 voted in his favour while five voted No.

Sonam Penjor is from Chela in Nubi gewog. He worked as a school teacher for 13 years. He was running a business when he decided to contest in the NC elections. He has a B.Ed in Secondary Mathematics and IT from Paro College of Education. He later studied M.Sc Mathematics at Berhampur University in Odisha, India.

The other gewogs in the dzongkhag did not nominate any candidate.

Dhamngoi zomdu held in Korphu gewog on March 1 saw 120 voters, Tangsibji gewog zomdu held on March 6 had 81 voters.

Drakteng gewog’s dhamngoi zomdu on March 7 saw 179 voters. The 22 voters at the dhamngoi zomdu for Trongsa throm on March 8 declared that they don’t have a nominee.

Trongsa has five gewogs and a Thromde. The poll day for the National Council elections is on April 20.

Trongsa had two candidates in 2008, and three each in 2013 and 2018.
