A bailey bridge over Drangmechu at Shing Phurtumo in Udzorong gewog has been temporarily closed to traffic since June 20 for public safety.

Dzongkhag engineer confirmed that seven bottom suspender connectors have cracked and another one is broken. They suspect the overloading of vehicles plying on the bridge to be the cause.

The bridge connects Udzorong to Trashigang and Mongar near Sherichu on Mongar-Trashigang highway. The bridge is located 25km from Trashigang and 11km from the gewog centre.

The residents in the gewog use the gewog centre road from Khengtong Mani on the Trashigang-Samdrupjongkhar highway for vehicles.

The 110-meter bailey bridge was constructed at a cost of Nu 31.6M.
