Ugyen Academy FC stretched their winning streak to three matches after stunning Tensung FC 3-1 yesterday at the MTC ground in Wangdue.

Ugyen Academy FC (UAFC) has now steered three points clear of the rival contenders Thimphu City FC with 13 points at the top of the league.

For the hosts, it is the second defeat in two matches at home.

UAFC took an early lead through striker Dilip Mongar in the 8th minute following an assist from Chuma Dorji Lepcha. Ugyen Academy kept more possession and exerted pressure forcing the opponent to play defensive. Tensung blew the few opportunities that came its way. The first half ended 1-0.

Tensung FC however sprang a surprise on the visitors equalising within the first two minutes of the second half. The unmarked striker Ngawang Tobgay’s volley found the back of the net.

UAFC responded through striker Kinga Wangchuk who scored six minutes later. The rest of the match was more or less a repeat of the first half. In the 61st minute, Kinga Wangchuk scored his brace and sealed the game 3-1 for UAFC.

Ugyen Academy has so far beaten High Quality United FC (3-1), Transport United FC (1-0) and Druk Stars FC (4-1). Only Thimphu City FC could manage 1-1 draw against UAFC.

Tensung FC had drawn 1-1 against Transport United FC in the previous game.

Thimphu City FC will play Druk Stars FC tomorrow at the Changlimithang Stadium.
