The vote is precious and people have to vote wisely, according to the Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) president Lotay Tshering.

During his campaign in Tsirang yesterday, the president urged voters not to vote from the heart but the mind.

He explained that if one votes from the heart, it would be sympathising the party they vote for but if one listens to the mind, then the mind would analyse which party would lift the nation and people higher.

“The vote cast from your mind will go to the most deserving party,” he said. “So please think carefully before you vote.”

He also added that no political party is bad and they all mean well for the people and the country. It is only crucial that people vote for the strongest and the best one. “The hope and prayers are that people will elect one such party this year.”

The president conducted meetings in both the constituencies in Tsirang, Sergithang-Tsirangtoed and Kilkhorthang-Mendrelgang. More than 200 people attended the campaign in each constituency.

Lotay Tshering said that one of the main intentions of him contesting the election in 2013 and now is to narrow the gap between the rich and poor.

“The main portal to the gap is health care service in the country among others. Strengthening health care service at the gewog level, making it accessible to the rural (low income) people without having to travel far and incurring expenditure is one of the visions of DNT.”

He said he is looking forward to this election to realise the party’s plans.

Lotay Tshering said the former government’s initiative to distribute excavators and power tiller was unnecessary, as Department of Roads would take care of the road. “Should DNT come to power, the department will be equipped to carry out the works without failure.”

On the power tillers, he said the benefit is widely visible. “Power tiller are lying idle in the gewog centres. Should we get a chance, we’ll not give it for free, instead we’ll make farmer own it at a subsidised rate.”

Responding to a question from the public on the free facilities parties pledge during the campaign, the president said DNT has barely any free facility pledges.  “None of our pledges is to just garner vote but to genuinely uplift the poor and narrow the gap between rich and poor.”
