For people who are looking for leisure activities, the first-of-its-kind water and recreation park in the country will be developed in Samtenling, Sarpang.

Located in the northern part of Gelephu—five kilometers from the town—the water park with a state-of-the-art pool called YD Aqua and Recreational Park is taking shape on a 2.7-acre site.

The water park will feature a four-story tall slide tower and a wide range of commercial-grade pool slides such as swimming pools, water playgrounds, and kids’ pool slides on offer for the guests to enjoy.

The project is developed by a former army officer, Yeshi Dorji.

He said the recreation park, once complete, would bring in both domestic and international tourists. “It would benefit gewog development and increase the livelihoods of the people.”

Once the park is open, he said that the people of surrounding places like Assam need not travel to Guwahati and Siliguri for outdoor activity. “They will come to a 20 minutes travel to Bhutan.”

The project engineer, Pema Lama, said the park will offer one-of-a-kind experiences for people of all ages. “Come to Gelephu is the vision. It is the branding of Gelephu.”

Given that there are currently no tourist attractions sites and activities in Gelepehu, he said that the park would be an important tourism product.
