National Centre for Hydrology and Meteorology (NCHM) issued a second advisory yesterday cautioning people to be vigilant during night hours and while travelling in cars for the next 72 hours.

The advisory cautioned that according to Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF), satellite and other weather products, there are chances of more rain in Bhutan across the country.

Forecaster with NCHM, Sonam Tashi said that the intensity of rainfall is expected to be less than that of the last few days. However, in some isolated places such as Pemagatshel, Samtse, Samdrupjongkhar, Gelephu and Trashigang, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected.

Sonam Tashi said that there would be little improvement in weather as less rainfall is expected from tomorrow afternoon. “There wouldn’t be clear sky but the intensity of the rain is expected to decrease,” he said.

NCHM also cautioned about flashfloods since the rain over the past few days has saturated the soil. “When it rains on saturated soil then there would be overflow, which may cause small flash floods,” he said.  He added that this would however depend on a particular place and the intensity of rainfall.

Dewathang received the highest recorded rainfall at 66.6mm on July 10. The lowest was recorded in Wangduephodrang at 5.4mm.
