Cricket: With other semifinal hopefuls True Warriors among the audience, TYT cricket club held their nerve as they comprehensively defeated Bhutan Telecom.
TYT opted to bat first and a blistering start saw TYT notch up 40 runs in five overs. Two quick wickets in the space of two overs from pacer Sherub Dorji helped curtail the run rate.
The fourth wicket partnership between Lalith Sharma and Amar Deep took TYT’s score pass the 100 run mark. Lalith Sharma notched up his half century in the process, and Amar Deep managed 27 runs.
The spinning pair of Dorji Loday and Suman Pradhan grabbed six wickets, reducing TYT to 176 for nine in the 24th over. Sherub Dorji came in for his second spell and wrapped up TYT’s innings at 179 runs in the 25th over.
With a target of 180 runs to chase, Bhutan Telecom’s opening batsmen failed to perform yet again, as they were reduced to 12 for two in the third over.
Suman Pradhan and Tandin Wangchuk dug deep and steadied the ship by producing a third wicket partnership of 48 runs.
The duo soon fell to loose shots and their dismissals had Bhutan Telecom in deep trouble. Captain Dorji Loday tried to start a rescue operation, but couldn’t save the ship from sinking.
After his dismissal, while batting on 32 runs, Lalith Sharma, who earlier dismissed Suman on 31, polished off Bhutan Telecom’s tail enders and handed his side a comfortable 37-run victory.
Lalith Sharma, the man of the match, received a dinner-for-two coupon at the Hotel Phuntsho Pelri, courtesy of Bhutan Tourism Corporation Limited.
The win takes them to a do-or-die match against True Warriors next week.
In the other game over the weekend, BTCL will be looking to beat BYP and top the table. The winner of the group will face Youth XI from group A, and runners up will face Tashas United.
