Crime: A 34-year-old woman from Mendrelgang in Tsirang is still in Damphu police custody for stabbing her husband to death.

The incident occurred on November 16 and police recently forwarded the case to the Office of Attorney General (OAG).

The victim’s brother reported the matter to police.

According to police, the couple had an argument where the accused alleged the deceased of having extramarital affairs.

The investigation team lead by police and a doctor of Damphu hospital suspect the 35-year-old man to have died from excessive bleeding since the accused left the deceased unattended after stabbing him.

The accused was alleged of stabbing her husband on the thigh and causing a large cut.

Mendrelgang Gup Yeshi said that the couple came to the gewog office seeking help to settle a case where the accused alleged her husband of having extramarital affairs. “The gewog forwarded the case to court since they didn’t have a marriage certificate,” he said. “The gewog is not supposed to mediate cases if the couple do not have a marriage certificate.”

Gup Yeshi said the couple settled their case.

According to the accused’s statement to police, she claimed she murdered him in self-defence, as he warned her that he would kill her. She also stated that he battered her but a police and medical investigation did not find any physical injuries on her.

The couple was married for 15 years.

The accused and the deceased have two children who are aged 14 and 6. Sources said the grand parents look after the children.
