The 27 year-old woman, who was doused with kerosene and set afire by her ex-husband died from injuries on September 23 morning.

Police arrested the 35-year-old man from Paro on the night of September 22, the same day of the incident.

Thimphu city police’s officer-in-command, Major Wangdi said the man has denied committing the crime. “The case is under investigation.”

The couple had separated a month ago. After she had asked him to bring their three-year-old daughter to meet her, they had met near the coronation park in Thimphu on September 22.

The man lives in Paro with their daughter while the woman lived with her sister in Thimphu.

According to police, the two had some argument after which the man poured kerosene on her and set her on fire.

The woman suffered second-degree burn and was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit at the national referral hospital. The body was handed over to her brother while the daughter is currently with her sister.
