The Gyelpoishing-Nganglam highway had been  blocked near Gongrizampa towards Nganglam since July 2.

Lingemthang’s executive engineer with DoR, Sonam Tenzin said that the roadblock got cleared around 7:30pm yesterday. “It took us the whole day to clear the blocks. Apart from major blocks at Gongrizampa and Gorthongla, multiple minor blocks were also cleared along the highway.”

However, he said that if it rains again, it is likely that roadblocks would occur.

In Samdrupjongkhar, the DoR’s chief engineer Jigme Tenzin said that the road got blocked at 63km near Narphung on the Samdrupjongkhar-Trashigang highway on July 3.

According to DoR, the roadblock that occurred at Shawjha which is about 30km from Gaeddu, on June 29 got cleared by July 1. “However, the road got blocked the very next day where the whole formation was washed away,” Dorji Wangdi, a DoR official in Phuentsholing said.

DoR said that as long as the formation of the road is not damaged and there is no rain, they could clear the road within a couple of days.

It was learnt that an excavator and men are also deployed to restore the road at the scene.

Officials also cautioned on travelling and working at the site as unsafe due to rolling boulders.

The block at 35km from Nganglam towards Panbang had been cleared yesterday at around 10am.
