Punakha – A 14-year-old rape victim gave birth at Wangdue hospital on August 25. 

According to a source, the victim delivered a baby boy in a normal delivery. Both the minor and the baby are in a stable condition.

The incident was reported to the Punakha police by one of the teachers of the school where the victim was studying after the teacher came to know about her pregnancy. 

Until then the incident was not known to anyone in the school. 

Sources told Kuensel that the victim had probably been raped by her first cousin last year and she was sexually abused when the suspect was under the influence of alcohol. The victim was warned not to tell anyone about the incident.

It was also learnt that the suspect’s mother is the elder sister of victim’s mother.

The girl was a student in one of the schools in Punakha studying in class VI.

The suspect is said to be a farmer. He also worked as a daily wage labourer. He was arrested from one of the construction sites in Khuruthang town and is currently in police custody. 

Both the victim and the suspect are from the same village. 

Meanwhile, the police refused to comment on the case stating that the case is under investigation.
