Nim Dorji | Bumthang

The villagers of Dhur in Bumthang are unhappy with the poor condition of the farm road.

The road has become worst these days because of rain.

The villagers and local leaders say that the trucks ferrying timber and stones from private stone quarry and Natural Resources Development Corporation Ltd (NRDCL) damage the road.

During the recent Dzongkhag Tshogdu, Chhoekhor Gup Pema Dungyel said that NRDCL and quarry maintain the road but it gets damaged during monsoon.

“The road will be blacktopped but a system should be put in place for continuous maintenance,” he said.

NRDCL carries out annual maintenance of the road, officials say.

The gewog administration, NRDCL and the two stone quarries are yet to meet to discuss the issues and find a solution until the road is blacktopped.

Dhur tshogpa said that the road will get a base course in the second phase of the CMI.

The residents say that DNT had promised better roads in the gewog.

DNT’s Dawa said that the blacktopping of the three roads is expected to begin by the end of September. All the procedures have been completed and the fund has also been allocated for the blacktopping.

Likewise, the people of Chhoekhortoed and Tandingang are also waiting for better road condition.

The Chhoekhor and Dhur roads will benefit more than 300 households with about 2,500 people and three chiwogs – Kizom, Tandigang and Khangrab with more than 1,500 people will benefit after blacktopping the 12Km road in Tang.
