Two men, aged 54 and 53, died on the spot when a compact car they were travelling in veered off the road at Arong in Samdrupjongkhar on December 8.

It was learnt that two other passengers, a 47-year-old woman and an eight-year-old girl, were evacuated to the Samdrupjongkhar hospital. They sustained minor injuries and are in stable condition.

While the accident was suspected to have occurred between 5:30pm and 6pm, a 32-year-old passenger reported it to the police at about 6:30pm.

Arong is about 32 kilometres away from Samdrupjongkhar, towards Trashigang.

According to sources, the victims were travelling to Zhingkham Goenpa in Arong to meet one of the deceased’s sick sons, who is undergoing traditional treatment.

The investigation team could not spot the damaged vehicle because of the sloped terrain, but the two dead bodies were found about 170 to 200 metres below the road.

The suspected cause of the accident is speeding.
