After elections: ECB advises elected candidates to keep celebrations small and safe.

The Election Commission of Bhutan yesterday declared the results of Thromde Elections held Wednesday.

However, the Commission advises the elected candidates to refrain from celebrations and mass gathering in view of risks associated with unprecedented surge in Covid-19 cases in the region.

Out of the total of 35 (26 male and 9 female) candidates who contested the elections, a total of 20 (17 male and 3 female) were successfully elected.

The thromde tshogpa vacancies for Motithang in Thimphu and Trashiling in Gelephu will remain vacant because ECB found that they were registered members of political parties.

Out of the total 10, 564 registered voters, 6, 281 cast their votes—4,428 EVM and 1853 postal votes.

The voter turnout was 59.46 percent.
