… her team Falcons enters semifinal

Anju Gurung’s team Falcons won by nine wickets against Spirit on April 12 in the ongoing 2023 Fairbreak Women’s T20 Invitational Tournament in Hong Kong, China.

The Falcons made 140 runs with the fall of only one wicket in 20 overs. Spirit obtained only 137 runs losing nine wickets in 20 overs.

Six teams comprising players from more than 30 countries are competing in the second edition tournament.

With 13 points from five games, Falcons entered the semifinal. They will face Barmy Army tomorrow.

The league round ended on April 12. Warriors are leading the tournament with 15 points followed by Barmy Army with 13.5 points. The Falcons are in third place with 13 points.

Anju Gurung said that her performance so far was good and she would work hard for the remaining games. “I am having a good time with other cricketers.”

She said she felt good to see new faces this time in her team and that it was an opportunity to explore and learn from each other.

Anju was retained by team Falcons due to her excellent performances last year in the United Arab Emirates. Last year, she was a top-four bowler for the team, which stood second.

Cricket officials said that participation in such prestigious tournaments would inspire many aspiring cricketers in the country.

The tournament brings together the best players, coaches, match officials, and managers from around the world.

The FairBreak Invitational Tournament is the first privately-funded tournament for women’s cricket organised by FairBreak Global to promote gender equality and equity through cricket and let players succeed in their chosen endeavours.

The tournament ends on April 16.
