What inspired the name “Mr Bhutan” to be associated with you?

Growing up as a skinny, shy, scared, and incompetent child, as measured and confirmed by the powerful and the many around me, I quickly understood that the majority of the world values, pays attention to, and mirrors the actions of those who have excelled in the materialistic realm, qualities that are currently in vogue, such as being intelligent, rich and famous, which still rings true today.

So, as a 7-year-old kid, I began to fantasize about being called “Mr Bhutan,” the greatest athlete Bhutan has ever seen. I acknowledged that this would be my path to distinguish myself. Once I earned this pedestal, I would stand upon it and share all the silence of my childhood and the message of my life, which has always been to inspire, encourage, and help individuals transform into the best human beings possible.

In 2008, when I won the first Mr Bhutan title as a 24-year-old father, the first thing I did was call Kuensel and offer to start writing “Ask Mr Bhutan,” a health and fitness column. It has since transformed into a Health and Happiness column, which I continue to write today. Since then, I have won 3 Mr Bhutan titles and also earned the first international medal in the sport of bodybuilding for Bhutan.

In 2009, I pioneered the personal training and nutritional supplement industry in Bhutan. I saw an untapped opportunity to provide employment and purpose to Bhutanese youth with little or no formal education, a job where experience and passion would be paramount rather than academic qualifications.

The discipline, work ethic, patience, sacrifice, and self-mastery it took to be the best bodybuilder I could be provided me with insight into the inner workings and nuances of my mind. It made an invisible world hiding in plain sight come alive. I understood where the next frontier of growth lay for me. So, I began my journey to improve the overall well-being of myself first and than slowly began to offer it to others.

Over the last two years, I have been invited to speak on stages in Bhutan, India, and Switzerland, sharing my insights on Health and Happiness. I’ve also used my Facebook page, “Mr Bhutan,” as a platform to reach people, spreading messages that resonate deeply with those seeking positive change in their lives.

So, to answer your question, it’s not only inspiration that associates the name “Mr Bhutan” with me. Rather, it is my life’s passionate effort and work that have lovingly molded the name “Mr Bhutan” to represent my likeness. Currently, I am working towards making “Mr Bhutan” a symbol and beacon of Health and Happiness.
