… lost to UAE by nine wickets

National women’s cricket team lost against the United Arab Emirates  (UAE) by nine wickets yesterday in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.    

Bhutan decided to bat first, but couldn’t manage an expected outcome. Bhutan clinched only 32 runs at the fall of all wickets in 15.4 overs of the 20 overs game.  

The UAE cruised victory hitting 33 runs losing only a wicket in 3.4 overs.   

Bhutan Cricket’s CEO Damber S Gurung said, “Our first game’s result wasn’t as expected. But we are still in the competition. If we win the remaining four matches, we will be in the semifinal.” 

However, he said the tournament will be challenging as Bhutan is yet to face competent teams such as Nepal and Malaysia.  He said Bhutan would try its best in the remaining games.  

Bhutan will face Qatar today.  

Meanwhile, Nepal defeated host Malaysia by five runs yesterday.  Bahrain also won by five wickets against Qatar.   

Bhutan is placed in Group A against the UAE, Qatar, Nepal, Malaysia, and Bahrain. All teams will play five games in the league. 

The National Women’s Cricket Team landed in Malaysia on August 22. The team trained in Johor for five days.

The tournament which began on August 28 will end on September 10.
