The second body of the two Bayling Central School girls, who were washed away by the Kholongchu in Trashiyangtse, on December 7, was recovered yesterday.

One body was found on same day from below Chorten Kora area about 200 meters away from the place of incident. The second body was recovered yesterday, around 10:30 a.m by the search team from below 50 meters from Chorten Kora.

The incident occurred on Saturday, around 11:30 a.m when the victims slipped into the river, reportedly while taking photographs. Both the victims were studying in class nine and were 15 years old.

Police officials said the incident occurred while one girl slipped into the river and the other tried to save her. The strong current, police said, swept away the girls.

Both the bodies were handed over to the deceased’s family.

According to officials, there were five girls who went to circumambulate the chorten after their annual exam.

A search team of about 160 people including Royal Bhutan Police, Desuups, dzongkhag officials and local people combed the riverbanks for the past two days.
