The mother of the boy, who was found lying near Chubachu area on the morning of July 25, took the boy home on the night of July 26.

According to police, the boy’s mother reported to Thimphu Police after a relative saw the post on Royal Bhutan Police’s Facebook page seeking information about the boy’s parents.

She said that the relative informed her. A police official said that the mother claimed that the boy went with his grandfather to a birthday celebration on July 24 and had a sleepover at his grandfather’s place.

“She claimed that the grandfather had to leave for Haa for some work early morning the next day,” a police officer said. “The boy who was sleeping alone at home must have come searching for his grandfather when our men found him.”

Police said that while the grandfather did not inform the mother that he left the boy at home alone, the mother assumed that he was with the grandfather.

“When the grandfather returned the same day, the boy was not home and thought the boy had gone with his mother,” the official said. “The grandfather and the mother did not communicate and they didn’t know that the boy was in police custody.”
