A resident from Toewang gewog reported a choeten vandalism to police on January 13 at around 11 am.

A Namgay Khangzang Chorten was vandalised in Goemthanka village in Toedwang gewog, about 18 kilometres from Khuruthang town.

Sources said that the suspect or suspects dug into the choeten. Police had discovered a brass thhrow (large bowl) and an antique buffalo horn from the scene.

The choeten is located 200 metres below Goemthanka village.

There are seven households, and each of the residents was questioned and also asked if there were any new strangers loitering around the area prior to the incident.

According to sources and villagers, it is unknown exactly when and in what year the Chorten was built.

The police meanwhile instructed the locals to be vigilant for any suspicious activity taking place in the community and to report it.

The case is under investigation.
