Chukha’s NC incumbent Sangay Dorji from Bongo Gewog, Chukha was re-elected yesterday securing about 52.4 percent of the total votes.
He secured 7,958 votes from total turnout of 15,176 voters. About 52 percent of the total voters in Chukha opted for the incumbent as their representative in the house of review.
Sangay Dorji from Gedu village in Bongo defeated his four competitors in both EVM votes and postal ballot counts.
The result wasn’t a surprise for most voters. It was his personality that made the difference. Sangay Dorji received the highest number of votes at 2504 out of 3,873 postal ballots while securing 5,454 EVM votes out of 11,303 voters turnout.
(Sangay Dorji received votes from all the 42 polling stations of seven gewogs. Bongo Gewog had the maximum number of votes for Sangay Dorji—1,459.)
Of 65 polling stations, 45 polling stations received maximum votes. From 11 gewogs, Sangay Dorji managed to secure maximum votes from seven gewogs.
Four gewogs and Phuntsholing Thromde gave the most votes to Damcho Gyeltshen. In Loggchinna, Damcho Gyeltshen secured 765 votes, and in Maedtakha gewog, he secured 168 out of 279 voters.
The nominee of Phuntsholing Gewog, Hem Prasad Rai, managed to secure just 523 votes while Damcho Gyeltshen secured 721 votes. From Samphelling Gewog, Damcho Gyeltshen received 395 votes.
Sangay Dorji said he was taken aback by the way result.
Sangay Dorji said that he hopes to serve the community by bringing in community-based businesses, improving public service delivery, and implementing the Right to Information Act.
He said that he would focus on safeguarding the sanctity of the Constitution. “And advocate multi-pronged interventions to address growing social inequality.”
He pledges to focus on youth related issues,advocate realistic solutions, being responsive to citizens’ needs, and request the government to examine the necessity of any law and propose new laws in consultation with electorates. “Together, we shall ensure successful implementation of remaining 12th Plan development activities and 13th Plan activities.”
