Dagana dzongkhag administration’s monitoring committee penalised a contractor for compromising the construction quality of a six-unit classroom building in Daga Central School in Dagana on May 4.

The committee has directed the contractor to dismantle the partition walls and reinforced concrete beams of the building within 21 days and consult the committee to rebuild the structures.

Dzongkhag engineer, Jamyang Dorji, said that although the reinforcement met the quality, the concrete beams were saggy after the shuttering was done.

“When we monitored prior to the shuttering, everything was good. The formwork went wrong,” he said.

The project worth about Nu 12 million for construction of additional structure in the school began in May last year. The project is expected to be completed by August this year.

The dzongkhag took similar decisions in the past.

Two contractors were penalised in January for poor construction quality of a six-unit classroom building in Tsangkha Middle Secondary School. Following this, a contractor was penalised for compromising quality of Corrugated galvanised iron (CGI) sheet of Renewable Natural Resources Centre in Tsangkha.
