Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) yesterday declared Rinchen Pelzang as the party’s candidate for Nganglam constituency in Pemagatshel for National Assembly elections later this year. 

Rinchen Pelzang, 39, holds a Master of Arts in Development Studies from Daffodil International University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, a Bachelor’s Degree and Diploma in Agriculture Science from the College of Natural Resources, and a Post Graduate Diploma in the same subject from the International Agricultural Training Center, Ruppin in Israel.

Rinchen has 15 years of experience in diverse fields in the civil service, rural development, private sector, and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). He worked with the Japan International Cooperation Agency as the project coordinator of Punakha dzongkhag. 

Rinchen was the founding Chief Executive Officer of Druk Shingthog Gongphel Nursery (Bhutan Seedlings) firm. He has been serving as a member of the Horticulture Association of Bhutan and Dzongkhags Business Development Committee, Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). 

He has also served as a student representative in his school and college days. While he was studying in Israel, he served as Bhutan’s Tourism Goodwill Ambassador to Israel. 

Towards the end of his civil service career, Rinchen served in Athang Gewog in Wangduephodrang as an Agriculture Extension Officer and Officiating Gewog Administrative Officer.  

During the Covid-19 pandemic, he served as a member of the dzongkhag steering committee and a de-suup gojay, and also coordinated essential supplies for Athang gewog and nearby areas.
