Fire razed a hut belonging to an elderly couple to the ground in Jalikhar, Bumthang, on the evening of February 13.

Although no causality was reported, the couple lost all their belongings.

The house was built on leased land and was not insured.

Sources in Bumthang said the couple stayed in a tent for almost seven months last year after they were asked to vacate from a rented house in the nearby place during the road widening time.

They said the hut was built after the wife did some vegetable business.

During the time of the incident, the woman went to the market and the man and his two-year nephew were at home.

Cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Bumthang Dzongrab handed over Royal semso to the victims.
