No casualties have been reported so far.
Residents living near Mochhu banks were alerted after the incident. Inhabitants of Changyuel hurried out of their homes to safety with a few essentials while others drove to Khuruthang town.
People continued to move away until it was certain that the flash flood would not affect Changyuel at 4am.
Dzongkhag Disaster Management focal person of Punakha, Sonam Phuntsho, said that the likely cause of the flash flood could be a cloudburst.
“For the time being, staying vigilant is the top priority for those living along the banks and close to Mochhu,” he said.
