Green Bhutan Corporation Limited (GBCL) will begin planting 25,000 trees today.

The plantation will start from Samtse this year followed by Pemagatshel and other regions.

GBCL signed a five-year agreement with EcoMatcher, and MyBhutan, a local tour company, for this exercise. The progress of the trees will be digitally traced with EcoMatcher’s technology which enables customers to visit every tree planted virtually.

EcoMatcher is a global platform that provides tree planting. Their technology platform helps to capture tree data through an app called TreeCorder and a blockchain and a cloud-based system for viewing and managing data on trees.

GBCL CEO Karma Jigme Temphel said, “We cannot wait to get started planting trees using EcoMatcher’s technologies, not to mention this partnership is a good example whereby combining strengths, we have an opportunity to make the world better.”

MyBhutan CEO Matt DeSantis said, “We have a shared duty to support local communities, protect the environment, and embrace sustainable travel. Through this project, we would like to show appreciation and support to Bhutan’s commitment to maintaining 60 percent forest cover.”
