His Holiness the Je Khenpo launched the health ministry’s ‘Our Gyenkhu’ initiative, an initiative to instil a sense of responsibility and highlight the importance of engaging in productive activities, at Tashichhodzong yesterday.
During the launch, His Holiness said that the initiative, strategically designed not only reinforces the Covid-19 mitigation efforts but also initiates a new nation-building movement through a collaborative approach of ‘whole of nation and Society approach’.
His Holiness said that the initiative was inspired by the wisdom and compassion of the Kings and their vision to instil collective responsibility and national solidarity through the spirit of true nationalism.
“I strongly feel that this is a very timely reminder and initiative as no single individual or entity in our country is solely responsible for the growth and wellbeing of our nation. We must all act collectively.”
His Holiness added that everyone should be inspired by His Majesty’s selfless and compassionate actions and do their part in shielding the country from the pandemic, and kickstarting a movement to make Bhutan a stronger and more resilient nation.
“I pray that the initiative will turn out to be a very successful one. I wish all of you good luck and success. It is our gyenkhu to work towards a stronger, resilient and prosperous Bhutan,” His Holiness said.
Health Minister Dechen Wangmo said that the initiative aims to solidify values of taking responsibilities not only for self but for the nation to be able to address the threat of Covid-19 and long term threats in terms of economic and health security.
“The initiative’s goal is also to instill a sense of collective responsibility among Bhutanese to proactively partake in the overall nation-building process in the post-Covid-19,” according to the ministry’s press release.
‘Our Gyenkhu’ includes 10 initiatives that individuals can follow like exercising regularly for at least 30 minutes, washing hands frequently with soap and water, and using a face mask in crowded places.
