On July 4 afternoon, an Indian national with alleged association with a Khalistan terrorist group was apprehended from a hotel in Jaigaon. Indian media reported that he had fled Punjab after allegedly assaulting an individual in Punjab and was seeking refuge in Jaigaon.

A source said that the suspect had attempted to enter Bhutan through Phuentsholing gate. However, with the security measures in place at the international border gate in Phuentsholing, his attempt was rendered unsuccessful.
