Jonathan FP Rose, an American urban planner, was awarded Druk Thuksey in recognition of his exceptional services to Bhutan.

“I feel incredibly joyful and grateful for getting this award. Bhutan is an opportunity to do amazing work in urban planning grounded in the Dharma, grounded in the deepest Buddhist principles. There is no other place in the world where we can bring this to life. And for me, that’s a life path,” said Jonathan.

“His Majesty read my book on Well-Tempered City and invited me to work in Thimphu”, said Jonathan.

He said that he invited Jonathan Rose to come on board as he was a great urban planner.

Jonathan FP Rose, President of Jonathan Rose Companies LLC, is a visionary leader in sustainable urban development and author of the acclaimed book on urban planning, “The Well-Tempered City: What Modern Science, Ancient Civilizations, and Human Nature Teach Us About the Future of Urban Life”. 

Beyond his acclaimed work in the U.S., Rose plays a pivotal role in advising Bhutan on transformative projects. He is the Chairperson of the International Advisory Committee, and guides initiatives like the Paro-Thimphu Strategic Prospectus and Thimphu Structure Plan, promoting green infrastructure, low-emission transport, and regenerative construction.
