The construction of the long-awaited farm road for Tseakpa village in Jurmi, Mongar began recently through Gewog Development Grant (GDG).

The road that starts from Singphung to Tseakpa will benefit more than 20 households. The road will connect to Gyelpoizhing-Nganglam highway.

According to Jurmi Gup Rinchen Gyelpo, GDG fund was released following consultation with the people of the gewog.

Construction was awarded to M/S Leki Wangchuk hiring unit.

Sangye Yeshi, 48, said the road will help farmers transport their farm produce to other dzongkhags.

Maize is the main cash crop grown in Tseakpa, which is harvested twice a year. Villagers have stopped depending on orange because of citrus greening that has affected the yield. Besides maize, people also grow avocado, banana and vegetables.

The road is expected to  improve market accessibility for the farmers in the gewog.
